I'm surprised by how often people ask me technological questions that they can easily answer themselves. While I'm often tempted to reply with a let me google that link, I try to refrain, unless I think they're asking out of laziness.
When I offer to help, I sit down with them, so we can problem solve together. This is partly to show them that I didn't know the answer ahead of time, and partly to teach them my thought process if they run into similar problems in the future.
So, why do people form mental blocks around searching for answers online? I suspect that it's when they're uncertain about whether they'll understand the data they find. For example, while people typically have no problem looking up historical dates, they'll often freeze when looking up how to install a print driver.
