Given that there's doubt about the Democratic National Committee's ability to conduct a fair and impartial primary, I wonder whether this kind of foul play would be uncovered by international observers. What kind of access are they granted? Would people believe them if they claimed that an American election was improper? And, why is the Department of Justice curtailing the number of federal election observers this year? With so many incentives to corrupt the system, it seems like we should keep as many safeguards as possible.
If this were to happen in a developing country, we'd be quick to question the validity of the results. So, why hasn't that happened here? Just because our democracy is older doesn't mean that it's functioning properly. In fact, I worry that we may be resting on our laurels and allowing corruption to flourish.
