I'm fascinated by Vulcan culture. On the surface, it comes across as almost robotic. But, their adherence to logic and meditation were developed as ways to tame their emotions, not to deny them.
Living by the Vulcan mantra of "infinite diversity in infinite combinations" requires discipline. Actively keeping your mind open to new perspectives is hard.
In some situations, it's beneficial to be dispassionate while in others it's not. One approach isn't better than the other; they're different and best suited for different scenarios. For example, emotions won't help a mathematician write a proof and logic won't help an artist be expressive.
The appeal of Vulcan culture is in being able to consciously choose between a logical and an emotional mindset. You need both. But, to be able to do that you have to have firm control of your emotions.
