Recently, I've caught myself feeling self-conscious about taking the subway when delays make me late. While these circumstances are out of my control, I'll admit that being stuck between stations without cell reception has made me second guess whether I should have taken an Uber instead.
Is it that I don't want people to perceive me as being cheap? Or is it that Uber has been successful enough with their marketing that people don't seriously consider taking the subway anymore? Rationally I know that I could've easily been stuck in traffic while in an Uber, but irrationally that seems more socially acceptable.
I wish that public transportation were more reliable than ordering a car. In theory, it should be more efficient. Unfortunately, this unreliability makes people opt out of the system, leading to less revenue, only making the problem worse.
