Outlets in hotel rooms

Why are there so few electrical outlets in hotel rooms? Buildings have clearly been renovated since guests started regularly carrying laptops and cellphones. Right now, you can only reliably count on outlets next to the desk and in the bathroom. While having an alarm clock in the room is nice, I'm more likely to use my phone. Don't hide the outlet behind the bedside table. Make it accessible!

As more devices are charged via USB, hotels should consider adding USB outlets to the wall sockets (like airport charging stations). It's no longer reasonable to expect that people will only have one device. Most people will be traveling with at least two or three. And, if the room has two beds, it's highly likely that there will be at least two people, so there should be double the number of outlets.
