In some areas, mortgage payments and monthly rent are almost indistinguishable. So, given the liquidity to make a down payment, many people would prefer to build equity in their home instead of paying rent with no possibility of redeeming that value in the future. But, homeowners are also responsible for repairs, insurance, and property tax, which require time and money.
One of the benefits of being a tenant is that you can tell your landlord that something needs to be fixed and expect it to be resolved in a timely manner. What if homeowners had a subscription "landlord service" that gave them many of the same benefits. For example, they could report a leaky faucet and the service would be in charge of finding a local plumber and scheduling a time to get it fixed, even if they're at work.
