Today, my friend told me that he knew where I was going to hit the ball based on how I was holding my squash racket when I was running. Exposing what I was about to do put me at a significant disadvantage, especially because I could have easily forced him to commit to running one area of the court before deciding where to place my shot.
When I say this out loud, it's clear that it wasn't a good idea. But, I was doing this instinctively (trying to make sure that I used the right grip). Had my friend not mentioned that I had a tell, I'm not sure I would have ever found out. I had just assumed that he was in better shape and able to run to the ball faster.
I wonder what other tells I have.
