Just because you know someone is good at something, that doesn't mean that's the only thing that person is good at or the only thing that person cares about. In fact, people are often passionate about things they don't do vocationally. For example, people avidly follow sports even when they're not talented athletes and people enjoy museums even when they're not gifted artists.
As someone who knows how to code, it's strange that people often assume that my hobbies are closely related to technology. While this is true for some of my hobbies, I also enjoy playing music, discussing politics, and listening to public radio.
Don't fall into the trap of pigeonholing people. You'll be surprised by people's unexpected skills and interests. They may come in handy. You likely have more in common with your friends / co-workers than you think.
