Disney has conditioned us to think that we'll find love at first sight. Maybe this is true for some people. And maybe I'm cynical because I haven't found it yet. But, I have a hard time believing that I'll fall in love with someone I've never spoken to. It's easy to write a happy ending to a fairy tale. But in real life, things don't always work out. In fact, it's unrealistic to assume that any relationship can work without compromise.
A good barometer for how much you like someone is how much you're willing to concede in order to make a relationship work. If you're unwilling to budge, it's unlikely that you actually believe in a relationship's long-term potential. By recognizing this early, you can minimize unnecessary heartache. Don't let Disney fool you into thinking everything will just work.
