Difficult forms of waste

It's easy to purchase light bulbs, batteries, blades, and other items that come in large boxes. However, when they need to be replaced, it can be difficult to figure out how to dispose of them safely. I'd feel guilty if someone hurt themselves processing my garbage.

At home, my local hardware store accepts drop-offs for smaller items like light bulbs, batteries, and blades, and I can schedule a curbside pickup for large items that won't fit in my garbage can a couple times per year. But without these local relationships, I wouldn't know how to dispose of these items.

I try to buy sustainably when I can, but inevitably I need things that aren't. I wish there were a consistent way to dispose of these types of items everywhere instead of needing to figure it out from scratch each time.
