Overheard at Sports Authority
With Sports Authority going out of business, I decided to browse the aisles to see if anything I needed was still available. While I was there, I overheard some employees telling each other that in the future they'd only work for family-owned businesses. This was a clear reminder that front-line employees often feel as though management doesn't have their best interests in mind and that they bear high personal costs when companies go under.
With a tight job market, people are becoming increasingly conscious of the fact that they can easily be let go if management decides to test a new strategy. So, many are opting to find companies that are run by people who care about more than just financial returns. They want managers who take running their businesses personally and who take care of their employees like family.
